My grandpa has a '98 sentra but it has some clutch issues and is riding 230,000 miles.

Found a '99 with about 160,000, but that year introduced the hydraulic clutch, so less likely to have clutch issues, but still a 5-speed manual.

Here is the vin, thanks in advance.

4 owners, no accidents, clean history.

Also that's a Sentra SE... it's one of the last of the SR20 models and a hell of a lot more fun than a regular Sentra. Pretty desirable car actually.

Thanks for the info, is it a better buy, in your opinion than a '98 gxe with 230k for $500?

Or is this worth the almost 4x asking price?

It's worth the $2000, but a running and driving car for $500 can't be beat.

Here's the thing,

With the clutch issues, it is almost impossible to get going from a stop. Rpm shoots way up, I do my best to let the clutch out slowly, and either it dies or lurches forward, neither of which is good for the car.

Any ideas how to get more clutch engagement distance?

These pages might help you:

If the clutch cable is already adjusted all the way out, the cable could've stretched and might need to be replaced.

Thanks, I'll give it a try, do you think I can talk the dealer down from 2k?

Doubtful, cars that cheap are always in huge demand, especially this time of year with everyone getting their tax refunds.

Make sure you get it inspected by a mechanic you trust before you buy it. Cheap cars bought from strangers can be a recipe for disaster. If the dealer won't let you have it inspected don't buy it.
